Sensational Citrus punch

citrus punch

From the outset let me update you that this citrus punch, is probably one recipe that is on this blog that has undergone a good amount of changes. Still always a favourite during the cooler months, the rainy ones and when the summer peaks.
Now change, that is a good thing. Especially when you are willing to take things in stride and move along. A couple or countries on our moves now and each one has contributed something new to this recipe. Here is my newest version of this citrus punch.

What goes into non alcoholic citrus punch?

Oranges :

This forms the base of the recipe. There is a huge array of them you can choose from. Currently, my love is towards a mix of Navel oranges and blood oranges. I love the colour they provide to the punch along with the pink pomelos as well. The blood oranges are my Australian addition to the recipe. You could choose tangerines, Valencia or Mandarins. I use tangerine to make the orange shake and the Valencia or Navel organs to make fresh orange jelly.

Lemons:

I do t have to stress how valuable the lemons are in any citrus punch. To match that perfect Vitamin C levels we always reach out to the lemon, so why not. We are here for the citrus kick.

Lime:

Though a little less in vitamin c levels, but the fragrance they impart to the mix is amazing. So don’t skip it.

Pomelo:

The colour of your punch certainly depends on the colour of the pomelo and oranges. Bring slightly bitter, I remove the fibrous coat of the segments only for the pomelo. This keeps them sweeter as well. As you would have realised this is citrus I learnt to have from the Philippines. There are a few recipes here with pomelo, bablimos raita is one easy recipe.

Ginger:

Fresh ginger,  where do I start!! It is such an elixir and saves us so many times during winter. The slight spiciness of the ginger blended in makes the punch so exciting. Here is a good way to store the rest of the ginger root – pickled ginger.

Black salt:

you don’t need a lot, but a touch to keep your tastebuds wonder what’s going on. It helps balance out the sodium magnesium pump in the body especially when you are dehydrated.

Honey or stevia:

Most of my recipes go without any. The citrus kick is very strong here so you need that bit of sweetness added to it. Opt for what suits you, not sugar though!!

No juicer, even better.

As a deliberate choice, I refrain from the juicer as much as possible. When making fresh the fibre content is more when you blend them than squeeze the juice out. Remove the skin with a sharp fruit knife and remove the seeds. Use the entire segments as such to make you blend. The colour of this is dependent on the colour of the various citrus you choose.
Share this secret with your friends and family along with this recipe. I am sure they will love to experience a change as well.
Hope you get the Vit C that you need irrespective of the season. It is for sure an immune boost, aids iron absorption and is antiageing. Stay tuned for more from us.

The amount of pomelo I’ve had during my one month stay in Thailand is amazing. Love the fruit. We get it here too but its more fibrous than juicy. Aptly named Sensational Citrus Punch as it certainly has a medley of citrus fruits. Must be so refreshing and delicious.
