Hilltop murugan temple/ waterfall murugan temple, Penang

The smarter one of Lord Shiva’s offspring….. as per mythological stories….Muruga….is considered as  peace loving diety. Murga temples.in India too are mostly situated n hilltop…..well the most beautiful one we had visited …I have to admit is the Penang Arulmigu Baladanthayuthapani temple.
It is considered to be one among the older temples in Penang , situated at the waterfall road.
The current temple that we see…is built in 2012to accommodate the influx of people during Thaipusam.
Well, we decided to to take a hike to see…this lovely abode of Bala muruga.
At the base of the hill…we are greeted by the temple for Lord Ganesha, Muruga’s brother. He is the one to remove all obstacles. A simple structured temple…..yet peaceful…calm and cool….
Then begins the hike of approximately 512steps…yes…a long climb…..yet do take it doe the breathtaking view it offers…not just of the holy abode…but of Penang…as far as eyes can carry….
This time around …we did not count the number of steps….next time will give you the exact count….
The next pit stop we took was at Arulmamani Arumugham Pillai Mantapam.
This is a staging area..for devotees…
It offers a fantastic view if the Raja gopuram or the main entrance…a 7storied, sculpted structure.
Now you can console yourself….a few more steps to hike up…and you will find yourself at the grand entrance…the rajagopuram.
Leading from the Raja gopuram we enter into the mahamantapam…..lavish ..cool….and so spacious. The ceiling decorated with beautiful flower motifs and chandeliers, and the numerous pillars…with sculptures.
In the centre of this huge hall is the sanctum sanctoram with a beautiful idol of Lord Muruga.
It was so calm and peaceful there….we sat down for some time.
Once you step out…the view is simply stunning. The entire…gurney drive…..the vast…Straits of Malacca, the majestic Komtar…amidst the lush greenery of the botanical garden….Wow..
We had fun…spotting…different buildings….and then began our decend.
Enroute…we reach the aviary ..with a few peacocks….very alert ones….
The path up and down are lined with quotes…to encourage you…I have pictured one which we all liked.
When you hike up..do carry water….some convenient vending machines are located in front of The Ganeshar temple. Water also is available at the mahamantapam.
The path, the temples and the premises are speck clean and inviting.
If you are traveling Penang….it’s a must see….as they say…it’s situated much taller than Batu caves and is one of the tallest situated in Malaysia.
As for us ….we will do it again. ..for the beauty of it…..
