Ingredients
To pressure cook
for the tamarind pulp
  • 1lime sized ball tamarindor 1/2 tsp tamarind paste conc.
  • 1/4cup Water
for tempering
Instructions
  1. Collect all the ingredients needed for the preperation
  2. Wash and drain the horse gram to remove any impurities.
  3. Add the 2,5 cups of water and pressure cook the horsegram for about 4-5 whistles
  4. Release pressure naturally (about 10-15 minutes)
  5. Gently mash the cooked horse gram and set aside
  6. Mean while, Dry roast the coconut, the curry leaves, the coriander seeds, chillies and cumin seeds till aromatic
  7. Make this mix into a smooth powder and add 1 ladle full of the horse gram plus the cooking liquid and grind further into a smooth paste
  8. Into a wok add the oil and ingredients for the tempering
  9. When the mustard seeds crackle, add the cooked mashed horse gram and the masala paste prepared.
  10. Add salt to taste and the tamarind pulp
  11. Simmer this for about 6-8 minutes
  12. the Saaru is now ready to serve
