Spinach and split peas dhal

An easy to prepare, zero oil, spinach and split peas dhal.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup split peas
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 bunches Spinach
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp dry red chillies chilli flakes are perfect

Instructions
 

  • Wash and soak the split peas dhal for 2 hours.
  • Meanwhile clean, wash and chop the spinach set aside till needed.
  • Bring three cups of water to a boil and add the saoked split peas.
  • Bring it to the boil and stirwell.
  • Lower the heat and simmer the dhal till it is cooked. To tesstif it is cooked, crush a dhal. If it mashes, it is cooked.

  • Once the dhal is cooked ( approximately 30-35 minutes), add teh chopped psinach, red chili flakes and salt
  • Stir them, simmer, while they are cooking for another 5 minutes.

  • Remove from heat and the dhal is ready to serve.

Notes

To cook this dhal in the instant pot:

The split peas cook perfectly in the instant pot. The water ratio is 2 parts to 1 part of the peas and set to pressure cook. Natural release steam and stir in the spinach, salt and red chillies.
