Xiang yun Vegetarian House, Penang, Malaysia

When you look for a pleasant lunch…you look for great company, free flowing conversation, and yummy food….. I finally discovered this combination is truly possible as I went out with a group of lovely women…..
The place they chose was an introduction to authentic Chinese cuisine to me….yet…a vegetarian place.. .yeeaaaahhhhh….this made me extra happy…
Without further ado…..let’s introduce…..Xiang yun Vegetarian House.
The restaurant is located behind hotel Alora close to Vistana in Bukit Jambul
Simple decor…. not fancy at all…you could very well make out it was a place frequented by regulars….
For a person newly introduced to Malaysian Chinese cuisine…I would honestly say….I was a little unsure of what to expect….
As we entered …we were greeted right to our seats with the menu….easy ha..  now to figure out the choice…..I had trusted hands…so it was easy… our order was simple..starting with rice, satay sticks with a sweet peanut sauce drizzled all over, a spicy Indian fish curry with stewed in okra(now the fish made of tofu….wrapped in sea weed), a tofu braised…stir fry okra..a house special mushroom..and… for drinks…I chose a hot nutmeg juice
I was amazed at the speed at which the food arrived.. and clean presentation.
We couldn’t wait to dig in….the satay sticks were divine…the dipping sauce double divine….
The Indian fish curry…had the looks of a real fish curry….the gravy was very good , the okra too …I realized that it takes a little more of my palate to adapt to take in the texture of the soft bean curd…in gravy…
Ok now to my favourites..the okra stir fry…was fresh, not heavy on spices…and a refreshing burst if flavours in your mouth….so was the tofu…the tofu was soft in combination with the soy granules…..awesome…. There’s was a sweet curry….with soy sauce base….I didn’t quite capture the name….next time ….ok now that was relished by all… but was too sweet to my taste …  the sheen on the glaze was fab….
The mushrooms were done in a sweet soy base too…yummy…
The hot nutmeg drink to wash it all down…..lovely……
Now we were too full to go on to desserts…so you know that the portions were big….
We tasted a black rice soup..as a shared dessert….it was simple .. and sweet…May be next time I will start with that….
The overall experience was phenomenal…. I loved the casual ambience and quick service….want to go back to try Pasembur…
To great conversations and phenomenal experience…..Thankyou girls….
