Servings 4 pieces

Ingredients

  • 4 wonton wrapper medium sized

Filling

  • 2 tsp Toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 tsp almond flakes
  • 4 Dates pitted and chopped
  • 4 chocolate thins

Garnishes- use any one

  • 1 tsp chocolate powder
  • 1 tsp chocolate syrup
  • 1 tsp ginger sugar

Frying

  • 2 cups vegetable oil for deep frying

Instructions

  • Thaw the wonton wrappers and place them under a damp towel to prevent drying.
  • Set a small bowl of water ready,to seal the edges of the wonton later.
  • Pit and chop the dates. Pound the almonds if using whole. Keep the rest of the ingredients ready.
  • Place a wonton on the plate and place a chocolate thin on the centre of it.
  • Add in half a tsp of sesame seeds, half a tsp of almonds and some bits of the dates on the wonton wrapper
  • Dampen the edges of the wrapper and form shapes like a triangle or a parcel. Press the edges well to seal shut.
  • Place the prepared wonton back under the damp towel to prevent drying.
  • Heat oil in a wok to medium heat. ( smoking hot oil will burn the wonton and the chocolate)
  • Gently place each wonton into the oil.
  • As the wonton turns golden brown , turn over and fry the other side
  • When both sides are golden brown, remove the wonton from the oil onto an absorbent paper.
  • Do not overload the oil with a large number of wontons at a time. this will make the temperature of the oil dip and end up as oil soaked wontons.
  • To serve, place the wonton on the serving dish, sprinkle with chocolate powder or ginger sugar. Alternately, drizzle chocolate syrup.
  • Serve hot.

Notes

To check if the oil is ready, use a small piece of another wonton wrapper. fry it and if it turns golden brown well.. you know the temperature of the oil is right. Check the video demo.
You could change the chocolate type you use to some chocolate kisses or milk chocolate.
