Nona Bali Restaurant, Penang, Malaysia

Bali is a dream destination for many of us…a lovely dream to live in…..the best memories of Bali for me was the colourful traditions…simple logic …yet laced in love  and care…
I loved food when at Bali..   a marriage of complex flavours  in the most simple looking plate…the tiny garnishes..  which invites you…..yummmm
When a friend invited me to revisit these memories at Nona Bali…..I jumped at it …did not want to miss this chance. I’m my curious mind I am wondering….Bali….in Malaysia….woipeee….what more…do I need…
So here we go on the Karpal Singh drive Penang, Malaysia…for an MSG free Balinese….experience…
We arrive there….I guess 10minutes early…..the door open at 11.30 am for lunch service till 2.30pm. This gave me ample time to explore the exhibits…..
We were ushered in as the door opened into more of a gallery of lovely art work and wood work…in fact it smelt so good in there…it felt that time stood still …till the time we stayed there…
Ok…  Now that we were seated we decided we better…order up…
So my expert friend had her trusted veggie menu set already….so I went by her suggestion, the veggie lunch platter with a dotty soursop…to go with it…
Now I have to tell you…that I was never so fond of the soursop…but trusted my friend as she promised I will change my opinions a out it once I did try this.
So I kept my fingers crossed…..
The veggie platter arrived …oh my…it looked so beautiful….perfect.. like a painted pic….and I won’t stop there……it was fab tasting….the wafer thin eggplant chip…wow..  the tiny bits of salad, the stir fry, the pickle.. all perfectly complement the conical snowy white rice in the centre….yummmmmm..The satay…delicious. How can I forget the crisp cracker..which I happily munched on…..
The platter was so filling.. .every element…perfect…
Now to the soursop…true to my friend’s words ….I did change my option about the subtle flavours of this yummy juice with its zebraed appearance due to the basil seeds….I love the fun element.
The lunch menu did not end there..following the platter was a pretty bowl of dessert placed..
A sweet molasses flavored chilled soupy dessert with jackfruit  and Palm jelly…cooling finish…
The staff extremely polite and courteous and the space was welcoming….the staff requested us to return for the dinner menu…which was more elaborate too.
With a super satisfied tummy and a mind now lulled by the flavours…we  left the restaurant..with promises to return often.
Thankyou Shashi for the Balinese experience and expert company…
