Naan dipper pizza

Naan dipper pizza
With every Halloween the question that I often get is what are you making. This is often as simple as a fruit platter or cheese stick brooms, but is something that brings a bit of childlike curiosity alive. This year I almost thought I won’t do anything. As I was clearing out the fridge, there is a half box of naan bites in there perfect in time. They do look a bit like a ghost, hence ghost pizza they become.

What are naan dipper?

Naan dippers are ready to eat bite sized naans. These looks more like baked naans than the tandoori ones. For this recipe I have bought them from Costco. If you prefer to make then,  make tiny balls of your naan dough and shape and pull into little triangles. When they bake you have a bunch of mini dipper naans. The dipper are great to pack to school with  bean salad or to have a curry party or make these bite-sized pizzas.

Is a naan base better than a focaccia base for pizza?

The best kind of pizzas have a stretchy flattened foccacia base if you are making them from scratch. Since the naan making process comes quite close to the stretchy pizza dough, it makes a good base for pizzas too. Unlike pizza that you will bake directly on the fresh dough, the naan has to be cooked first and then add the sauce and toppings to bake again. Luckily these naan dippers come precooked.

Ingredients for this ghost pizzas

These ghost pizzas are made of the simplest ingredients. Most of them are store bought , so as good as assemble.
Naan dippers: store bought naan dippers make the pizza base. These are tiny and bite sized so easy to assemble.
Pizza sauce: I have used a basic store bought pizza sauce. There is no brand specificity here, so just go with what you like.
Olives: pitted black olives cut into roundlets is what I have used. You can do green olives, gerkhin slices or capers too.
Cheese: that stretchy mozzarella, yumm! I have used grated mozzarella with a sprinkle of grated parmesan. You can absolutely do a four cheese mix with fontina and feta thrown into the mix.

Let’s make naan dipper pizzas

The naan dipper pizza comes together pretty fast.
  • Preheat the oven at 180 degree.
  • Layer the naan dippers on a baking tray.
  • Using a teaspoon spread a bit of the pasta sauce on each bite sized naan. Sprinkle the cheese. Place the  olive slices such that they look like eyes. Keep them a bit closer on the wider side of naan so they don’t slip off.
  • Bake the assembled naan and the recipe is ready.
