Fruit farm,Penang

Tucked into the sleepy village  of Teluk Bahang is a 25 hectares of the organically grown fruit farm. This farm boasts of around 250 varieties of fruit plants and trees, both native and some brought in from other countries. Opened to public in1993, this is a great eco tourism venture.

To reach here, drive down via Batu ferrungi, and further to Teluk bahang. There are predominant signs leading your way.

The ticketing is around 41.80 RM for non-Malaysian. If you hold a my kad it costs 31.80 RM per adult. This ticket involves a ride to the orchard, a half hour guided tour by walk, enzyme tasting and fruit buffet.

A guide accompanying the small tour group is quite well informed. They all speak good English and are quite passionate about the farm.

We spotted quite a lot of fruit trees like guava , Jack fruit, avocado, macadamia nut, water apple, star fruit, cocoa, lemon, lime, pomelo, mangoes, durians, acai berry..etc..just to name a few.

There are plenty of herbs and shrubs too…like cat whiskers, lemon grass, curry leaves, spearmint, basil etc

The tour is informative, the path well laid. from the orchard the tour leads to a enzyme testing centre displaying the process of preparation of virgin coconut oil and fruit enzyme  or lovely lemon grass tea. This facility also doubles up as a souvenir centre of with items from the farm.

The delightful part of the tour is the fruit buffet where you get to taste all the tropical fruits in season. We had a wonderful array of sweet fresh fruits like longan, passion fruit, fresh mandarins, orange hued jackfruit, starfruit, jambu air, and many more. The ticket also also got us each a freshly made fruit juice…I should say the fruit punch and  and the nutmeg pineapple combo was outstanding.

If you are a person who loves fruits, has a green thumb, and don’t mind the heat…you will enjoy the place.

Psst ..the best time to visit is June -July as most fruits are ripe and makes tasting and seeing more exciting.
